Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility has issued a report on the Bureau of Land Management under the Biden administration.

Halfway into the president's term, they gave it mixed reviews.

The BLM has the largest public lands portfolio in the country but is frequently split between conflicting goals of extraction and conservation.

At the same time, it faces chronic staffing shortages.

The nonprofit says the administration has made progress in fixing agency-wide problems, but there is plenty of room for improvement, particularly in the area of climate change.

“Oil and gas leasing on public lands contributes to greenhouse gasses, emissions, and also the livestock grazing program, contributes to the climate problem, and has not been addressed by the agency yet,” said Chandra Rosenthal, a spokeswoman for PEER.

The report says the BLM has made progress in plugging abandoned gas wells, another significant source of greenhouse emissions.
