After the reversal of Roe v. Wade, Sen. Rebecca Rios, Arizona Senate Democratic leader, says Republican state lawmakers will likely push for more anti-abortion legislation in the next session. She suspects they will aim to ban the Plan B pill and other forms of contraceptives.

Rios adds that the confusion over which abortion laws take effect and when is causing providers to halt procedures.

“My understanding is, because everything is up in the air, that Planned Parenthood has put a stop on all procedures as of Friday," Rios said. "So what does that mean for the woman, perhaps, who was scheduled for next week who doesn’t have the resources to travel to California.”

Rios says while she signed a petition for an abortion rights initiative to be put on the November ballot, she is not confident it will reach the required number of signatures.

"It has been circulated for a very short time, maybe a month or so," Rios said. "They need 450,000 signatures by July 7. It's a high bar."

The state's abortion ban that was signed earlier this year is set to take effect in late September.
