Monsoon rains bring some relief to Sonoran reservoirs, but levels remain low
Steady monsoon rains in neighboring Sonora have been welcome in the parched state, where reservoirs had been dropping to troubling lows.
Federal data show modest increases in the state’s system of reservoirs, as regular storms have brought desperately needed moisture to the state.
That includes the El Novillo reservoir, which is one of Hermosillo’s key water sources and has gone from 28% of capacity to over 30% as of late last week.
But even with the rainfall, the state’s reservoir system remains well below where it was at this time last year, which also saw historic lows.
