Starting this fall semester, Native American undergraduate students from all of the state’s federally recognized tribes will be able to get tuition and mandatory fees covered at the University of Arizona. 

The university claims it is the first program of its kind in Arizona. The money comes from the relocation of financial aid dollars and will be dispersed through the college’s Enrollment Management. 

To be eligible for the Arizona Native Scholars Grant, students must complete their FAFSA and provide tribal identification.

Kasey Urquídez is the dean of undergraduate admissions at UA. 

“We would love to grow the number of Native American undergraduates that are selecting the University of Arizona for their education. And more importantly that we are able to serve them while they are here and help them get to graduation and become a wildcat for life," Urquídez said. 

According to the school, there are more than 400 students currently enrolled who will qualify for the program, but it hopes it can help more people become full time.
