The city of Phoenix will be opening 14 pools for Memorial Day weekend, most of July, and some days in August and September. 

Adam Waltz with the city of Phoenix says it has experienced struggles hiring staff to keep the pools running. 

He added while it would take 650 staff to open all of Phoenix’s 29 pools, the city has hired 386 people, including 296 lifeguards.

While no more lifeguards will be hired this year, there will be free programs for youth to train for the position.
