The Arizona Senate passed two controversial education bills along a party line vote on Monday.

One gives parents the right to sue teachers and government officials if they take over the parents’ right to direct the upbringing of their children. And another would require school boards to adopt procedures so parents could access the books and materials available in school libraries

Democratic Sen. Martin Quezada says that law is too burdensome. 

“If you can't establish that relationship with your own child and they don't want to tell you what they're reading, then that's emblematic of a bigger problem, not the fact that the school isn't telling you. That's a problem between you and your child."

Other Democrats opposed the measures, saying they are too vague and target teachers.
