COVID-19  cases at the University of Arizona are on a decline, officials said during a Monday media briefing.

Last Friday, the university’s testing positivity rate was 3.5%, lower than the rate for last week, 6%, and earlier in the semester, over 10%.

UA President Robert Robbins referenced New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy's recent decision to lift his state's school mask mandate. The UA is ready to do the same, Robbins said.

“We’ve decided to keep what we have in place throughout the rest of this semester, obviously watching numbers very carefully but I think it would be a mistake to relax those at this point," he said.

Robbins added that mask-wearing compliance has been strong around the campus and in the classrooms, and has improved at basketball games.
