Arizona political analyst concerned over new proposed election bill
Arizona House Bill 2596 is one of the most controversial bills to arise from the new state legislative session.
It calls for a complete overhaul of Arizona’s elections, including requiring hand-counting of ballots after every election and mandating that all votes must be cast on Election Day.
Jim Heath is an Arizona-based political analyst. He says he is unsure if the bill will make it through the legislature intact, but it will still be heard.
“It’s an indication of where a lot of Republicans are at. I don’t know whether this bill can pass the Republican legislature, but it certainly can be presented, it certainly can be talked about, and ultimately, there might be committee hearings on it,” said Heath.
HB 2596 is yet to be assigned to a committee after being introduced on Jan. 21.
