Pinal County offering $500 incentive to prevent illegal dumping
On Wednesday, Pinal County officials announced a new rewards program that will provide a monetary incentive for residents who submit tips or information on illegal dumping.
This program is part of the county-wide effort to decrease the amount of large items littered across the region’s desert. The program will give $500 to any resident that submits a tip that leads to the person who dumped items being charged.
“If you go out and you drive side by side out in the desert, you’ll see couches, you’ll see mattresses, you’ll see just trash bags littering our beautiful, pristine environment. And collectively as a county we said enough is enough. And we’re trying to not only clean that up but prevent it from occurring in the future," says county attorney Kent Volkmer.
He says hundreds of thousands of dollars have been spent yearly on cleanup efforts. He hopes in the future, volunteers such as those serving probation will partner with the county to assist in clearing the environment.
