New SRP program lets customers buy solar power to offset electricity use
Installing new solar panels on an older home can be expensive, so SRP has designed a plan for those who want to support solar without those upfront costs.
The new Solar Choice plan is for residential and small-business customers who want to support solar energy.
Under the program, customers can pay to offset their power use with solar energy for as low as half a cent per kilowatt hour.
The utility will then purchase the power from Arizona solar farms.
“This is a program that’s designed for our residential and small business customers who are interested in supporting solar,” said Dan Dreiling, a spokesman for SRP. “And basically, gives them an opportunity to offset their energy use with solar that we provide at SRP.”
The program replaces similar ones the company has had in the past. SRP says the new program costs up to 50% less.
