Ghosts have long been a part of the story of the Copper Queen Hotel in Bisbee. The hotel mentions them right on its homepage. And a new production by Arizona Opera focuses on the story of one of them: Julia Lowell in room 315.

The opera is a fictional account of who Julia may have been and what her life could have been like. The story is told through the eyes of a woman who, in 2010, went to the hotel to search for and make contact with Julia.

But you won't be able to see the production on stage. "The Copper Queen" Film is — as the name suggests — in movie form.

Screenings at three Harkins Theatres in the state run from tonight though Thursday. After that, viewers can buy access to watch at home through early January.

The Show spoke with the film's director, Crystal Manich. She's a freelance director who has worked with Arizona Opera in the past.

She says how the production turned out is not how she had originally envisioned or planned for it.
