The copper dome on top of the Arizona State Capitol building is getting a makeover.

The state is working to replace the copper coating for the second time in a decade.

The last time was in 2011 after a hail storm, but it isn’t holding up too well.

“What we think happened was dust got in there and it just wasn't a controlled environment. And so that's what led to the oxidation and corrosion that we are seeing on it now," said Megan Rose with the Arizona Department of Administration.

While workers are estimating the copper plating on the dome will be removed some time next week, the whole process is likely to last through December.
