A document posted on a conservative blog claiming that GOP-hired contractors recommended Arizona lawmakers overturn the 2020 election is “absolutely false,” according to the contractors.

Gateway Pundit, a Trump-friendly conservative website that’s closely followed and was granted special access to the Maricopa County election review, published what it described as a draft copy of the final report issued to Arizona Senate Republicans on Friday. The draft they posted includes a recommendation that the “should not be certified.”

As the Arizona Capitol Times first reported, the document is fake. A spokesman for Cyber Ninjas, hired by GOP Senate President Karen Fann to conduct the review, later said such a report was not written by the firm’s CEO, Doug Logan, “nor was it in any version that was ever sent or shown to the Senate for review.”

“That was not written by Cyber Ninjas,” according to the statement from spokesman Rod Thomson.

Gateway Pundit has since removed the fake report from its website.

Legal scholars agree that decertifying an election, at this juncture, is not legally possible, but that hasn’t stopped some Republicans in Arizona and elsewhere from latching onto the Cyber Ninjas report — which found no evidence of fraud —  as proof the election was rigged.
