Gov. Doug Ducey, AZ House Speaker Rusty Bowers, Welcome Afghan Refugees
Gov. Doug Ducey and Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers say they welcome Afghan refugees to the U.S. and the state.
Bowers, a Republican, says it's the right thing to do, especially after the way Afghans helped protect American troops in wartime.
“They were very loyal to us, my brother of course is a three tour veteran in Afghanistan and his interpreter, he had more than one, but they would be the target of what’s going to happen," Bowers said.
The Arizona Office of Refugee Resettlement plans to help Afghans “secure housing and employment, enroll them in English classes if needed, connect them with health care resources,” and enroll their children in school.
