With at least a quarter of Arizona residents fully vaccinated and over a third with one shot, state-run vaccination sites will begin taking walk-ins.

Dr. Cara Christ, Arizona Department of Health Services director, says two sites have already begun doing this as demand for the vaccine slows. 

“The University of Arizona and Yuma, those two PODS, we've seen a significant decrease. So they are going to start looking at taking in walk-ins, just letting people come in and get the vaccine whenever they are available, not based on an appointment," Christ said.

Christ says having walk-ins will help reach the goal of herd immunity since it will be more convenient. 

Christ also says there are ongoing evaluations of how long the vaccine's effects will last. She says she hopes that by the time people would need a potential booster, it will be distributed as easily as the annual flu shot.
