In the twin cities of Colorado City, Ariz. and Hildale, Utah, some members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are being evicted from their homes. We spoke to a reporter who’s been covering this about why people are being evicted at all.

There’s a trust called the United Effort Plan. The UEP used to be operated by the FLDS church and is now controlled by the state and it has imposed fees of $100 a month to households in the community and some people are refusing to pay.

In June of last year, a judge said she wanted eviction proceedings to begin. The first notices were served nearly a year ago, but in the past month or two we’ve seen a lot more. Cami Jim is a reporter and editor for the St. George News based in Northern Arizona.
