Rural parts of northern Arizona may soon have a new source of renewable energy. A Florida-based company plans to build a renewable energy farm in Coconino County.

The Babbitt Ranch Energy Center northwest of Flagstaff would have 61 turbines, up to 600 acres of solar panels and a battery storage facility.

NextEra Energy Resources is planning the farm. It already operates a wind farm north of Williams.

This coincides with APS’s goal to use 45% renewable energy sources by 2030.

The project should be submitted for approval this summer and the company hopes to begin construction by the end of the year.
