MEXICO CITY — The Biden administration has promised to administer COVID-19 vaccine to undocumented immigrants. Mexico’s government has given a similar order and has resolved a controversy over vaccinating resident foreigners.

Mexico announced that migrants will get equal access to coronavirus vaccine like other residents. 

According to Mexico’s Secretary of Health, about 1,200 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in migrants from the U.S., Honduras, Venezuela and Colombia. 

Meanwhile, hundreds of foreigners living in Mexico tweeted that vaccination sites were not providing them service, even though some of them are registered residents. 

The federal and local governments soon ordered that vaccines should be provided regardless of the immigration status.

Currently, Mexico is prioritizing older members of its population, and many health workers are still waiting to get vaccinations.
