As of Wednesday, one out of every 500 Arizonans has died from COVID-19. Arizona has seen one of the highest rates of death in the country.
Only eight states have lost a larger share of their populations since the start of the pandemic than Arizona has, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.
The Arizona Department of Health Services reported Wednesday that a total of 14,462 Arizonans have died as a result of the virus. That’s more than 2,000 deaths for every million residents — far higher than the U.S. average of 1,400 per 1 million.
More than a third of COVID-19 deaths in Arizona have been reported just since the start of this year.
