Rate Of Positive COVID-19 Tests Tops 40% In State
On the heels of Arizona’s record COVID-19 deaths, the state’s positivity rate for coronavirus tests has reached an alarming high.
A seven-day trailing average shows the state's test positivity rate has passed a record 40%.
Joshua LaBaer of ASU's Biodesign Institute said that means a lot of Arizonans — perhaps 1 in 10 — have the disease.
But it also means not enough people are getting tested.
"We're seeing days of 15,000 tests a day or even 10,000 tests a day, and that's nowhere near the amount of tests that we should be doing right now."
LaBaer worries complacency due to vaccine availability is driving the recent downward trend in testing.
Vaccines likely will take months to significantly reduce community spread.
