More people traveled by car over the Thanksgiving holiday, leading to higher-than-normal gas prices nationwide. The national average for a gallon of gas is up 4 cents per gallon over last week.

AAA Arizona spokesperson Aldo Vazquez says that as COVID-19 cases continue to climb, though, demand will drop and Arizonans can expect cheaper gas.

"Going forward, drivers can expect gas prices to decrease even more in the days ahead, especially with demand showing the lowest readings since June," Vazquez said. "If you’re hitting the high country, you’re going to be paying the most for gasoline, as Coconino County, it being the highest averages for gasoline at $2.36, you’ll find the cheapest prices in Pima County at $1.96."

Gas in Arizona is still about $0.05 per gallon more expensive than the nationwide average.
