Tucson’s mayor has asked the City Council to consider a three-week curfew starting Tuesday night at 8 p.m.

Mayor Regina Romero said she made the decision to put a curfew in place as cases climbed to the highest they’ve been in Pima County since summer.

"We are hoping this particular measure in our community will help slow the surge of cases," she said

And she criticized Gov. Doug Ducey for not implementing a statewide mask mandate or a curfew himself. She said she was told he was too busy to speak with her this past weekend. He hasn’t spoken with Romero since March.

The curfew would run from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Dec. 22. Violators would face misdemeanor charges after initial warnings. 

The City Council will also consider what sort of economic relief it can provide to residents affected by the pandemic. The city still has about $17 million in CARES Act funding.
