Republicans gathered to show support for President Donald Trump as elections officials continue to count ballots on Nov. 5, 2020.

As workers at the Maricopa County Election Department continue counting ballots, protesters have been gathering outside the elections center since last week.

Erika Flores, with the Maricopa County Elections Department, says measures are being taken to ensure the safety of county workers counting ballots.

“We have worked closely with the Sheriff’s Office so they were able to create a space outside in the parking lot called the ‘freedom of speech zone’. That way they’re able to practice their freedom of speech while we continue to work inside.”

Flores says the measures being taken have allowed workers inside to count ballots safely.
