Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego welcomed the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to the White House. She says that Biden faces a historic number of challenges, and one of the biggest challenges is dealing with coronavirus.

“This week, we elected a new president and we set national records for COVID-19," Gallego said. "I’m hoping that president-elect Biden will send a strong message that we have to take public health seriously and that measures such as wearing masks are important  for us to get through this public health crisis.”

Gallego says that although not everyone voted for Biden, she hopes people will give him a chance to move the country forward.

She is also a supporter of Vice President-elect Harris.

“This will be the first time we have a woman in one of the two highest offices in our nation," Gallego said. "An exciting day for our African-American, Indian-American and women in this community. A little girl can look out today and say that anything is possible in the United States of America.”
