Schools in Maricopa, Pima and several other counties are now free to start hybrid-learning under state guidelines, after those areas met benchmarks in slowing the spread of COVID-19.

Some schools have already started in-person classes, while others have not.

Becky Hill argues that regardless of how — or where — students are attending school, the driving issue right now is whether or not kids are getting the educational experience they need to not fall behind and to meet their individual needs.

Hill is western region director for the group Yes Every Kid, and has worked in various other education policy roles in Arizona. She says some of the redesign happening now to the education system is overdue.
