The COVID-19 pandemic has, among other things, resulted in a huge percentage drop in the number of people who are traveling. Airlines have already cut back on flights, and now we’re seeing more staff cutbacks and layoffs.

American Airlines may furlough up to 19,000 employees on Oct. 1, and some of the nearly 10,000 of them who work in Arizona may be affected. That would clearly include flight attendants.

The Show spoke with Brian Hartshorn — a flight attendant and spokesperson for American’s flight attendants’ union — and Brian Clark, an American flight attendant based at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Both have been with the carrier for more than 20 years.

Starting with Hartshorn, they discussed how the airline — including employees — has been affected so far.
