A new report from the American Hotel and Lodging Association shows the hotel industry remains in dire straits six months into the pandemic.

In metro Phoenix, August occupancy was 43% — 23 percentage points lower than last year, the report says.

Most hotels remain at 50% occupancy or below, and four out of 10 hotel employees are still not working today.

The Show spoke with one hotel operator to find out how this is playing out on the ground in the Valley. Ronen Aviram is the vice president and general manager at the Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale.
