As students head back to — virtual — school and more and more of their parents are heading back into the office, the question of who is going to take care of their child is front and center again. For many parents, the answer has been the Boys & Girls Club.

In fact, Boys & Girls Clubs across the state stayed open throughout the pandemic, for a while exclusively taking care of the children of first responders and essential workers who had to work even throughout the shutdown.

Now they’re seeing increased demand as they have transitioned to remote learning centers for students.

Marcia Mintz, the CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Arizona, said they are seeing about double the students signing up now. In response, they’ve opened 18 distance-learning sites.

The Show spoke with her for more about the increase and how her organization is adapting to it.
