Scientists Release Biggest Ever 3D Map Of The Universe
Scientists have released what they’re calling the largest three-dimensional map of the universe, ever.
The Sloan Digital Sky Survey includes more than 2 million galaxies and quasars, along with their positions and distances, and allows scientists to have the biggest and most comprehensive view of the distant universe they’ve ever had.
Astronomer Xiaohui Fan with the University of Arizona started working on the survey in 1995, when telescopes and equipment were still being built; the project started collecting data three years later.
The Show spoke with him for more about the project.
