A surge in COVID-19 cases leads fast-food giant KFC to advise franchise locations in Arizona and three other states to avoid dine-in seating.

Earlier this week, KFC closed dining rooms in 40 corporate-owned restaurants in Florida. Now, the fast food giant is suggesting 58 franchise locations in Arizona avoid dine-in seating at this time.

A company spokesperson told KJZZ:

“We have advised our franchise locations in the hot spot states of Florida, Texas, Arizona and California that have reopened to consider closing dining rooms for dine-in seating at this time. This guidance is part of our continued efforts to prioritize the health and safety of our team members, customers, and the communities where they live and work.”

According to the company, 5% of its restaurants have reopened for dine-in services. Most KFC locations remain open for drive-through, delivery and carry-out.

Last week Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey ordered indoor restaurant seating be limited to 50% of permitted fire occupancy and maintain either six feet of separation between parties or erect a plastic or glass barrier between tables. The Executive Order, which took effect July 11, will remain in effect until further notice and may be reconsidered for repeal or revision every two weeks.
