For the first time Tuesday, Arizona reported more than 2,000 new COVID-19 cases. The Department of Health Services has reported several record-breaking days for new cases since the state began reopening.

On May 29, Arizona reported a record 702 new COVID-19 cases. Not even three weeks later, that daily record has more than tripled, with 2,392 cases.

Testing has increased in Arizona, but so has the percentage of positive tests.

At the time Gov. Doug Ducey announced plans to begin reopening the state in mid-May, about 5% of tests were coming back positive. As of last week, state data show a 14% positive rate.
