An Arizona union has called on UPS to temporarily close its facility in Tucson after an outbreak of COVID-19.

In a statement, representatives for Teamsters Local 104 said they believed that at least 36 employees were infected with COVID-19, though they said both UPS and the Arizona Department of Health Services have refused to disclose the extent of the outbreak.

A union spokesperson accused UPS of waiting too long to take precautions, like requiring face masks, gloves and social distancing, adding that UPS has also been pressuring workers to come in, even if they feel sick.

On its website, UPS described steps it's taking to keep workers safe, including additional cleaning and encouraging employees to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for social distancing and hygiene.
