Supermarkets, Retailers Catching Up With High Demand
Rows of empty supermarket shelves may soon be a thing of the past as grocers and retailers are catching up with high consumer demand.
Chan Braithwaite, supply chain expert at ASU’s Thunderbird School of Global Management, said the nightmare scenario of panic buying is over for the most part.
“What we may see is some ripple effect, but it’s just steadying itself out. As you’ve seen with paper towel and toilet paper, they are already adjusting,” he said. “You’ll see large shipments coming in. They can withstand some of the demand for longer periods of time than they were a month ago.”
Braithwaite also said while some large meat processing plants are still closed, small suppliers may have an opportunity to fill the void.
