The coronavirus pandemic has seriously affected airline travel globally, and the same is the case in Phoenix.

Sky Harbor Airport spokesperson Krishna Patel said there has been a 47% drop in passenger arrivals and departures this March versus the same month in 2019.

“In March of 2019, we had close to 4.52 million passengers travel through Sky Harbor, and in 2020, we’re seeing about 2.4 million passengers that traveled through in the month of March,” she said. “We have not currently closed any part of the airport and for the foreseeable future we don’t plan on closing any concourses or gates.”

Patel said one bright spot is cargo shipments are up by 6.4% in March as opposed to the same month last year.
