The Maricopa County Community College District is canceling in-person graduation ceremonies to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.

The community college district is looking at other options at a later date, when health and safety concerns have waned.

A spokesperson at the district said as of Thursday, 688 students have gotten a degree or certificate for spring or summer 2020.

The number of students who have applied for graduation for spring or summer 2020 is 5,102.
