Cox Aims To Ensure Internet Access During Coronavirus Pandemic

Cox Communications says it will not cut off service to homes or small businesses if they can’t afford to pay their bill because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“And we’re also waiving late fees for those same customers at this difficult time,” said Susan Anable, Cox’s vice president of public and government affairs.

Cox said in a news release that it’s increasing internet speeds for home customers with certain plans for roughly 60 days. These include a program designed for low-income families with children. Anable said the company will fast-track the qualification process for families that want to get the internet service called Connect2Compete.

“They’ll get the 50-megabit per second service and they will also get the first 30 days of service for free,” she said.

Amable said Cox also aims to help people who may not be customers by opening 1,600 WiFi hotspots in metro Phoenix and 900 more in the Tucson area.

“So if folks are out and about in the community, they should be able to access these WiFi hotspots. And we have a map on our website that shows you exactly where they are located," Anable said. 

Anable said the hotspots should all be available Monday.
