Money can’t buy you love, but can it buy you an election?

The former New York Mayor and media baron Michael Bloomberg has continually gone up in the polls since he entered the Democratic presidential primary two months ago. So far, Bloomberg has spent almost a quarter billion dollars on TV ads since he announced his candidacy for president.

He’s not the only billionaire spending big bucks. California’s Tom Steyer has bought more than $100 million of TV ads since he announced his candidacy last summer.

While the unprecedented spending is great for the owners of TV stations, cable and TV networks, the massive amount of ad buys makes it more expensive for other candidates and campaigns to buy airtime.
