State law prohibits local governments from regulating short-term rentals, a policy driving frustration across the state as the properties swamp local real-estate markets and neighborhoods.

More and more now, municipalities are fighting back, raising the voices of their elected officials and citizens alike to demand a fix from the Arizona Legislature.

A community forum in Scottsdale on Wednesday morning sought to do just that.

Paradise Valley Mayor Jerry Bien-Willner spoke about how these properties have impacted his community, and he joined The Show to talk about the conversation. 

Arizona is not the only state that’s working to find the right regulatory balance in the area of short-term rentals.

Airbnb recently announced it would officially ban so-called “party houses,” and voters in Jersey City, New Jersey, on Tuesday approved stricter regulations on short-term rentals. Many experts believe these new rules will result in fewer listings.

To talk more about this vote, The Show also reached out to Kellen Zale, an associate professor at the University of Houston Law Center.
