The Mountain Park Community Church in Ahwatukee. The worship auditorium was destroyed in a flood after last September's rain storm. Today, the room is back to normal.

Last September’s heavy rainfall flooded many areas, including homes and businesses around the Valley. One Ahwatukee church's worship auditorium was destroyed. Now, nine months later, repairs have been completed.

The nearly 1,000-capacity worship room at Mountain Park Community Church was packed on Sunday morning.

A wash behind the building overflowed last September. Flood waters gushed into the church and destroyed just about everything. Worshipers met in other facilities for weeks and even when they returned construction work continued around them. Allan Fuller is the pastor at Mountain Park Church. He said they’re not able to get flood insurance, but are doing what they can to protect the church.

“They refer to it as the thousand-year rain, and so we did not know where water would want to come in if something like that happened," he said. "Now we do. We’ve done some things, but we have more to do to protect that area from the same kind of volume of water."

Fuller said an estimated half million dollars was spent on repairs.
