The Phoenix Human Relations Commission will meet Monday to discuss improving the relationship between the community and the Phoenix Police Department.

In 2011, a community task force gave the police department 34 recommendations to help officers improve relations with the community.

Monday’s meeting is essentially a progress report. Phoenix PD is expected to brief the commission on what it has done with those recommendations and provide a baseline for what conditions are like now.

Brendan Mahoney is the commission’s chairman. He said the group will most likely discuss the ways they can assist the police department.

"That probably will involve setting up working groups that will then go and do certain things," he said. "And ultimately what comes out of that are some policy recommendations that will then go to the city council."

The commission will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the city’s Fire Administration building. The meeting is open to the public.
