The Mesa Police Department has selected a new chief.

John Meza has been chosen as the department’s new leader following a nationwide search.

Meza has served with the Mesa Police Department for almost 30 years. He has been acting as the interim chief since Frank Milstead left the post in February after being named the director of the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Meza previously served as Mesa’s assistant chief for seven years.
