Phoenix Sustainability Office Creates Electric Vehicle Program Fellowship
The Phoenix Sustainability office is offering a fellowship in its electric vehicle program.
The Transportation, Infrastructure and Innovation Subcommittee approved the fellowship position at its Sept. 4 meeting as the city prepares for increased electric vehicle usage.
Phoenix Chief Sustainability Officer Mark Hartman said the temporary position will allow them to better address the needs of residents.
“The whole concept of electric vehicles and how do we prepare for the infrastructure, charging equipment and the whole influx of all these new electric vehicles on the market, we really need as a city to prepare for that," Hartman said.
Sales of electric vehicles in Arizona have grown 90% in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2018, according to data from The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers.
Hartman said the added personnel at the electric vehicle program will help the city identify future locations for charging stations and help consumers navigate the electric vehicle options on the market.
