A Phoenix elementary school won a grant of $100,000 toward a new fitness center.

Brunson-Lee Elementary School was awarded the grant through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. One of the teachers said that this new fitness center will have an impact on the kids.

Tiffany Crawford, a teacher at Brunson-Lee Elementary School, said, "A lot of them talked about how this is going to help them with sports, some of the students talked about how it can help them be healthier, not be as heavy because they come from heavy families. So the students have decided for themselves how this is also going to impact their lives.”

Crawford nominated the school for the award, explaining what the school does to promote healthy living and wellness among the children.

"We have some ellipticals, we have some bikes. Everything is self-powered so there’s not like treadmills or anything electrical. We have some chest press, some arm press, we have some benches. It truly is a fitness center. What you see at one of the big name places is what we have for students," she said.

Crawford said the children are excited about the new center because it will help them stay active.
