We all know that we’re in the middle of a very divisive political time in America. You can see it everywhere — from cable news to city council meetings.

It was at a recent Tucson City Council meeting where Tucson resident Alex Kack found himself in a divisive situation that went viral.

Kack works for the “People’s Defense Initiative,” which backed an effort to put an initiative on the ballot that would make Tucson an official sanctuary city. At this particular meeting, the council was set to put the initiative on the ballot, largely a formality after the group gathered enough valid signatures to make it happen.

But there was also a small group of far-right, anti-immigrant protesters at the meeting, holding up signs and yelling. And Kack’s reaction, as many have seen all over the internet, was to laugh hysterically.

The video of Kack laughing, while wearing a green polo shirt, took over the internet shortly after. Now, on the internet, he will forever be known now as #GreenShirtGuy.

The Show spoke with Kack about his internet popularity and the politics behind the moment.
