The U.S. Forest Service is getting more volunteer help in monitoring more than 1 million acres of wilderness, in Arizona. Another 30 volunteers were trained over the weekend, for the Arizona Wilderness Coalition’s stewardship program.

Attorneys for those in the Deferred Action Program are
back in court, in an effort to force Arizona
to grant their clients driver's licenses. The licenses have been denied by
Governor Brewer under a state law that says people have to prove they're
authorized to be in the country to get a license.

A monsoon storm in the East Valley last night damaged
some homes and schools in the area and resulted in significant power outages. SRP
Spokesman Scott Harelson says the outages from the storm were above average for
a typical Arizona
monsoon storm.

The mayor of Nogales,
Ariz. is criticizing a proposal
to increase border security by topping the border fence with razor-wire. Arturo
Garino thinks a better idea would be to shift Border Patrol agents from
checkpoints in the interior of the state, to the border.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s
Office says a third accused looter is under arrest for stealing items from
homes that were evacuated as a result of the Yarnell hill fire. Sheriff’s
spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn says 22-year-old Thomas Adams was found with a gun
taken from a Yarnell home.

It happened again on Interstate 17 this past weekend. An accident snarled southbound traffic Sunday afternoon leaving homebound travelers stuck in a massive jam, and geography makes the problem worse. This time the accident was near Black Canyon City.
