9 O'clock Jazz Special for 11/11

Monk  Alfred Lion left Germany for NY when he was 16 because he loved jazz.  Once here, he went to hear as many musicians as he could, and started recording with Meade Lux Lewis and Albert Ammons in 1939.  His love of jazz and his commitment to quality over commercial appeal made his record label Blue Note Records the standard for jazz musicians and fans the world over.  Blue Note helped start the careers of Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver, Art Blakey, Herbie Hancock, Dexter Gordon and many other modern jazz players who became legends because of the support of Blue Note Records.  Hear the best of Blue Note, tonight on this classic 9 O'clock Special.
