Arizona gas prices lower than national average

Arizona gas prices have dropped for the fourteenth week in a row. KJZZ’s Al Macias reports that Arizona prices are now below the national average.

AL MACIAS: AAA Arizona says gas prices dropped another nickel statewide this week to $3.35 a gallon. That’s the lowest price in five months. Michele Donati of AAA says the price of crude oil continues to drop and that is driving down the price at the pump.

MICHELE DONATI: Looking at current market factors, there’s certainly more room for Arizona to call but it’s difficult to say how much longer these price slides may occur.

MACIAS: Donati says the East Valley and Tucson have the lowest prices in the state at around $3.27 a gallon. Flagstaff has the highest price at $3.56 a gallon. Nationally the average price for a gallon of gas is $3.38. Donati says those weekly drops may continue but no one is sure for how long or how much. She says other states are already seeing the cost of fuel starting to climb.

DONATI: Thirty states and D.C. have started to see increases over the last week. The most dramatic movement occurred in the Midwest, states in that region have seen prices rise by more than a dime over the last week, and there’s a couple of states that saw surges of a quarter or more.

MACIAS: Donati says those other states saw price drops earlier while Arizona and other western states did not, due to refinery issues. Now those problems have been cleared up and Arizona is benefitting from plentiful supplies of gasoline.
