McCain calls for campaign finance reform

Arizona Senator John McCain says the U.S. Supreme Court case that led to unlimited independent campaign expenditures will lead to scandals. He also called the court’s decision in the Citizens United case “uninformed.” From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Mark Brodie reports.

MARK BRODIE: McCain and another senator filed an amicus brief with the court today, asking it not to review a campaign finance case out of Montana -- in which that state’s high court ruled the state could still restrict corporations from paying for campaign ads. McCain says he’d like to go back to the law before the Citizens United case.

JOHN McCAIN: All I know is that if you have that much money washing around in a political campaign, unaccounted for, with unlimited amounts of money, that there will be scandals. I know that because that’s been the history. That’s why we enacted these reforms to start with, was because of scandals.

BRODIE: McCain says he’s talking to his colleagues in the Senate, to see if they can reach a compromise on limiting campaign contributions from both corporations, and unions.
