County Supervisor on Thomas: 'Justice has been served'

Former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas is expected to speak today, following his disbarment yesterday. On Tuesday a disciplinary panel upheld 28 ethical violations against Thomas. He and two assistants were accused of targeting county leaders and judges in criminal investigations. KJZZ’s Nadine Arroyo Rodriguez reports on reaction outside the courtroom.

NADINE ARROYO RODRIGUEZ: Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox was the only county official who attended the ethics panel hearing.  She sat with her husband at the front of the court room. Wilcox is one of seven public officials who were targeted by Andrew Thomas. During the hearing, she testified that she and her family were intimidated and harassed by Thomas and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. After the panel’s announcement to disbar Thomas, Wilcox said justice was served.

MARY ROSE WILCOX: I think Maricopa County citizens, they need to understand when somebody is given power, when they are put in a position that is suppose to protect people and violates them they will be dealt with harshly with, and that’s what happened today.

ARROYO RODRIGUEZ: Wilcox says county leaders will now await the outcome of the investigation of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office by Department of Justice. That office is accused of alleged civil rights violations.
