Here and Now: Airline Adversity
Those friendly skies aren't so friendly, at least not to your pocketbook. The huge jump in the cost of fuel is having a tremendous impact on airlines. Many have started charging for luggage and some are enforcing strict carry-on limitations. And have you checked out the cost to fly to your favorite destinations?
Higher travel costs has also prompted some to not travel, although the parking lots at Sky Harbor are full as people escape Arizona's heat.
How have higher prices affected you? What do you think airlines should do?
We also want to know how high fuel prices has affected your driving.

Here and Now - Light Rail
Phoenix is the last major city in the nation to add rail transit. Granted it may not be as fast as San Francisco's BART, or as effective as Washington D.C.'s Metro, but it is anticipated to be at capacity just a few years after operations begin in December 2008. Will you use light rail in the valley? When it expands, where else should it go? Perhaps more importantly, how do we pay for it? Jot your question or comment below. If you don't see it on the web right away--we moderate the discussion to avoid those nasty spammers.

Here and Now: Transportation, Legislature
The valley may have the most polite drivers, but it doesn't mean they are very happy with the traffic they face on a daily basis. No sooner do new freeways get built then they are full to capacity. Anyone taking the 101 south out of Scottsdale in the afternoons can attest to that. And what about west valley drivers? Interstate ten resembles a parking lot more than a freeway during rush hour. The valley is making improvements in mass transit. New and expanded bus routes may entice some to get out of their cars. And light rail is scheduled to debut in a year and a half. Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman wants to see commuter rail ease gridlock that plagues his community. Hallman joins transportation planning expert Mark McLaren on Here and Now. What would you like to see done about our transporation woes? Chances are you moved here from some where else. What are other cities and states doing that we might want to consider here? Here and Now host Steve Goldstein could use comments and questions on air. So post your questions now! (Governor Napolitano could not make Wednesday's show and has rescheduled for July.)

Here and Now - Transportation Issues
In this hour of Here and Now we asked the questions, what should we do to meet the state's transportation needs? Should we let drivers pay to use the HOV lanes? What about building a 24-lane freeway - 12 lanes each way - to ease congestion through Tempe? And would you vote for putting photo radar on all freeways? Listen to the archived audio of the program here.

Life in the Fast Lane
Driving in Arizona
Congested freeways, rude drivers, photo radar. Add in high gas prices and Arizonans have more incentives than ever to abandon their cars for other options such as buses and light rail. But will they? Also, what's being done to ease traffic congestion?
